Welcome to Stellenbosch!
The town is home to Stellenbosch University and situated approximately 50 km from Cape Town amongst the Boland Mountains in the Winelands of the Western Cape Province of South Africa. It was founded in 1679, making it the second oldest town in the country. Stellenbosch is known for its natural beauty and oak-lined avenues, Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian architecture, history and culture and its wine routes.
Stellenbosch today offers a small‐town impression in a vibrant atmosphere where culture, art, music and heritage takes centre stage. Surrounded by beautiful mountains and vineyards, some of the most popular leisure activities include wine tasting and hiking. Stellenbosch also offers a variety of award‐winning fine dining experiences in a selection of restaurants, as well as an energetic café culture featuring an array of sidewalk cafés and eateries.
