A visit to UCT (University of Cape Town) College of Music and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens

Delegates will be taken on a guided tour of the WH Bell Music Library and the Kirby Collection of rare musical instruments. This will be followed by an afternoon spent at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens which is acclaimed as one of the great botanic gardens of the world.

Post-congress day tour (Saturday 29 June)

Visit Genadendal and Greyton

Genadendal (‘Valley of Grace’) Moravian mission station, founded by German missionary Georg Schmidt in 1738, was the first mission station in southern Africa. In 1838, the first teachers training college in South Africa was established there. The rich history and musical history of Genadendal will be explored by means of a tour of the village and the village museum, which also hosts various musical instruments, including the oldest pipe organ in South Africa. The second part of the tour is a visit to Greyton, where delegates can explore the village and enjoy lunch before returning to Stellenbosch.
