The repertoire for the evening will predominantly consist of original compositions by Louis Mhlanga, featuring additional original works by Schalk Joubert and Simangele Mashazi, along with a selection of South African jazz standards. This showcase aims to highlight the remarkable diversity and complexity of various South African and African guitar styles and rhythms. Louis Mhlanga, widely regarded as one of the best African jazz guitarists alive, will lead the performance.
The singing will encompass languages such as Shona, Zulu, isiXhosa, Afrikaans, and English, creating a diverse and authentically South African experience. For the performance on June 24, Mhlanga will be accompanied by a phenomenal rhythm section consisting of Kevin Gibson on drums and Schalk Joubert on bass.
A special guest appearance will be made by Sima Mashazi, a renowned Zulu singer and academic from Stellenbosch.
